September 6, 1965 infused a spirit of unity and oneness in the entire Pakistani nation which enabled the country to face aggression from an enemy much bigger in size and better equipped with weapons.
These views were expressed by 1965 war veteran Lt General (R) Raza Khan at an event organized by the Nazriya Pakistan Council (NPC) at the Aiwan-e-Quaid, Fatima Jinnah Park. The ceremony was also addressed and rich tributes were paid to the ghazis and martyrs of 1965 War by Chairman of the NPC, Mian Muhammad Javed who presided over the ceremony, Editor-in-Chief of Pakistan Observer Faisal Zahid Malik, members of the NPC Executive Committee Maj Gen (R) Muhammad Tahir and NargisNasir, Director Media of the NPC Hameed Qaisar and poet and writer Muhammad Irfan Khan.
Pakistan they said was created as part of a divine scheme and no power on earth can cause any harm to it. While recalling the war, Lt Gen Raza Khan said it was a golden chapter in the history of 1965 war that Pakistan’s brave forces and officers kept at bay the hostile enemy for days at the war fronts of Lahore and Sialkot despite heavy artillery, tanks and other war machinery used mercilessly by India.
In the exchange of fire, the enemy had to bear huge losses, said Lt Gen Raza Khan adding the Indian forces had underestimated Pakistan and their officers were boastful that they would take evening tea at Lahore Gymkhana. However, all their designs were frustrated by the valiant forces of Pakistan and they had to retreat on a number of war fronts.
Kashmir, he said was the main dispute that caused the Indian forces’ attack on Pakistan. Had Radcliffe not given Gurdaspur to India, today the entire region of Kashmir would be part of Pakistan, he said adding, it was injustice to Pakistan as well as the people of the occupied valley as they are being subjected to the worst forms of oppression by the occupying Indian forces even today.
About the hybrid war doctrine, he said this was going on and the authorities should take notice of certain social media accounts as some TV channels for spreading negative propaganda.
Faisal Zahid Malik also saluted the Pak Army for standing against a much bigger enemy and held that the brave soldiers are sacrificing their lives even today in war against terrorism and the entire nation is indebted to them. Mian Muhammad Javed paid rich tributes to the martyrs and ghazis of the Pakistan army and recalled how the entire nation had stood by tits armed forces. People of Pakistan admire and adore their armed forces and no one can divide this bond of oneness and unity between the people and the army, he said. NargisNasir also regretted some media houses and TV channels’ role in spreading negativity among the masses. “We must learn from our past and foil the negative designs of the enemy and its agents,” she said.
Later, the participants asked questions about the 1965 War and held the Pakistani armed forces in high esteem. It is because of them, the defence of Pakistan is in safe hands, they held.
