ISLAMABAD  –  The Ministry of Finance dismissed the news of an increase in the petroleum levy from July 1 as baseless.

The spokesperson of the ministry said that there is no truth in about increase in the petroleum levy from July 1.

There were circulating reports of an increase in the petroleum levy from July 1.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance has denied such reports, calling them baseless.

“There is a room for the petroleum levy on petroleum products, but there is no increase in the petroleum levy from July 1, nor has any decision been made,” said the spokesperson.

He said that the government does not want to burden the public and steps are being taken to reduce the inflation.

He said they are aware of the fluctuations in oil prices in the global market, and the public should not believe in rumors.

On Thursday, the National Assembly passed an amendment bill related to the petroleum levy by a majority vote.

It should be clear that the federal government announced in the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025 that the petroleum levy would be increased from the current Rs60 per liter to Rs80 per litre.

However, the government would impose a petroleum levy of Rs20 per litre periodically.
