ISLAMABAD – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Monday hinted at further increase in the electricity prices.
NEPRA stated that due to a continuous decrease in the electricity demand, there may be an additional increase in the quarterly adjustment.
By February, the NEPRA said, there was an overall decrease of 12 percent in electricity demand. Due to the continuous decrease in demand, there might be an increase in the prices of quarterly adjustments.
NEPRA also said that the Ministry of Energy and the CPPA should collect proposals to end load shedding on commercial grounds. There is a 60 percent capacity payment in electricity rates which is much higher than international standards.
The NEPRA authority directed that while staying within legal boundaries, work should also be done to reduce the capacity payment of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA). The current quarterly adjustment is Rs. 2.75 per unit.
