Pakistan Muslim League-N and the Pakistan People’s Party have not yet reached consensus on the proposed names for the constitutional post of governor in Punjab, the sources privy to the development revealed on Tuesday.
“Three names including Qamar Zaman Kaira, Makhdoum Ahmed Mahmud and Nadeem Afzal Chan were proposed for the office of the Punjab governor,” said the sources, adding that the deliberations were still underway to finalize the name.
The sources said that the deliberations lingered just because the PML-N had a stake now in Punjab as Maryam Nawaz is the chief executive of the province.
The PML-N, according to the sources, wanted such a person from the PPP side as a governor which could work cordially with them in the given political situation. The both parties had reached consensus over the power-sharing formula during the different five to six days talks.
The sources said that the PML-N had expressed some reservations, and therefore, the name was not finalized yet.
However, they said, the name of the next governor would be finalized soon.
The PML-N, the sources said, showed its consent about two names including Qamar Zaman Kaira and Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmud.
