Multan Sultans beat Peshawar Zalmi to reach PSL 2024 final

KARACHI – Multan Sultans beat Peshawar Zalmi by seven wickets in the qualifier to reach the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 final at National Stadium in Karachi on Thursday.

Chasing a below-par 147-run target for the victory, Sultans crossed the finishing line in the penultimate over for the loss of three wickets. Yasir Khan was the top scorer with 54 runs followed by Usman Khan who made 36. Iftikhar Ahmed scored 22 runs, skipper Mohammad Rizwan 15 and Johnson Charles 11 runs. Mehran Mumtaz, Aamer Jamal and Salman Irshad bagged one wicket each. Usama Mir was named the player of the match.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Zalmi lost opener Saim Ayub (1) in the first over. Skipper Babar Azam (46) and Mohammad Haris (22) steadied the ship by adding 47 runs together for the second wicket. After that Zalmi kept losing wickets at crucial stages and ended up at 146/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Tom Kohler-Cadmore scored 24 runs, Paul Water and Luke Wood 14 each, while Rovman Powell made 12 runs. Usama Mir and Chris Jordan bagged two wickets each and David Willey, Mohammad Ali and Abbas Afridi took one wicket each.
