Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh has said that Sindh Energy Department, Engro Energy limited and a group of Karachi-based industrialists would soon ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a 400 megawatt electricity generation plant to provide low-cost uninterrupted power to the industrial units in Sindh, especially Karachi.
He said that Sindh Government would provide land at Jhampir for this wind and solar-based power plant.
This power plant would initially produce 50 MW electricity in the first phase and soon it will be increased upto 400 MW, he added.
He said that Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) will install a grid and transmission line to supply uninterrupted power to Karachi’s industries from this power plant.
The Sindh Energy Minister said that the legal matters with regard to the MoU have been decided in a meeting today and work on the project will start soon after the signing of the MoU.
