ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima claimed that the internet service are slower in Pakistan due to massive use of VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) which are used to access blocked portals, including X.

She gave the explanation during a press conference on Monday as users have been experiencing disruption in mobile internet and social media apps amid reports regarding trial of firewall on telecommunication companies.

The state minister argued that the use of VPNs slows down the speed of the mobile internet. She added that steps are being taken to address the issue.

Furthermore, Shaza Fatima further revealed that that a digitization Commission is being established for digitization of economy in the country.

She also rubbished the reports regarding involvement of government in slowing down the internet in the country.

In recent days, internet users across the country, including business professionals, freelancers, educational institutions, and students, had complained of suffering immense frustration due to slow internet speeds and unresponsive social media platforms.

The internet outage had rendered users unable to download media from social platforms, struggling to send and receive images, videos, voice messages, and other documents.
