SINDH Education Department has cancelled the registration of a private school and sealed its premises after secret cameras were found installed in the boys and girls washrooms.
Despite warning and show-cause notices served to school management, it failed to clear its position, which really smacks of a foul play.
Installing hidden cameras at washrooms is really a serious issue which should not remain confined to the sealing of the school but strict action needs to be taken against the school management as per the law for this misuse of technology in order to avert such shameful occurrences in future.
The school managements could install cameras for security and safety purpose of the students and the staff but there is no justification whatsoever of placing them in washrooms. This really speaks of their ill intent and ill mind.
In the past also one has seen such episodes where videos especially of girls and women were made through secret cameras to blackmail them later. Such elements deserve no mercy at all and those found involved in them must be given strict punishment.
Videos filmed through hidden cameras have also gone viral most recently of important personalities especially the politicians. The question is as to who is involved in such immoral activities.
Doing so is also breach of privacy which is a fundamental human right and mentioned very much in Article 14 (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan.
It reads dignity of man and, subject to law, the privacy of home, shall be inviolable. In this backdrop, the right to privacy is meant to take precedence over any other inconsistent provisions of local or special laws.
Hence, this practice of making videos through hidden cameras should come to an end, no matter who is involved in it. And especially our law enforcement agencies need to keep their eyes open regarding the misuse of technology in areas like educational institutions.
The installation of such cameras must only serve the purpose of providing security to the people and check criminal activities.
