The authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have not allowed senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to address a Seerat Majlis in Srinagar.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Seerat Majlis was organised in connection with the urs of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA).
The Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, in a statement said on the invitation of Idarah Gousia Sarai Bala, Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was supposed to address the Seerat Majlis but the authorities, without giving any reasonable reason, did not allow him to go there.
It expressed surprise and regret over the continued house arrest of its head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, thereby disallowing him from performing his official duties, which is unfortunate.
Such attitude of the state administration towards the Mirwaiz, who has been under continued house arrest since October 15, 2023, only hurts the sentiments of the Muslims here, it deplored.
A large number of people had gathered in Astana Ghousia Sarai Bala to listen to the sermon of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, but they were deeply disappointed.
The authorities claim that the conditions are now favourable in Kashmir but they are imposing restrictions on purely religious programmes, which is beyond our understanding, the statement said.—KMS
