Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the three-day Soul Fest at Beach View Park. The festival aims to showcase Karachi’s vibrant culture, focusing on food, music, and other cultural activities. Speaking at the event, Wahab said, “Our culture is extraordinary. Food and music are key elements, and this festival will be an opportunity for Karachiites to enjoy and celebrate.”
While addressing various issues, Murtaza Wahab clarified that the alliance between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is unconditional. He expressed his lack of awareness about statements made by any PML-N member on the matter. Discussing the waterline leakage on University Road, Wahab stated that the damage was caused by contractors working on the Red Line project.
He said he had contacted the head of TransKarachi, Sarosh Lodhi, to resolve the issue. Major leaks have been repaired, while minor ones are temporarily left to ensure the work is completed soon. “Action will be taken against those responsible for negligence,” he assured. The mayor emphasized ongoing efforts to eliminate encroachments in the city, stressing the need for practical solutions by providing alternative spaces. Referring to the example of Gujjar Nullah, he said, “Wherever issues are identified, actions are taken,” adding that measures against illegal parking are also in progress.
Wahab addressed criticism of his administration, stating, “If we weren’t working, there wouldn’t be any criticism. The fact that we are being criticized shows we are making progress.” He also remarked that just as politicians aren’t permanent, bureaucrats shouldn’t be either.
“Our focus is on doing good work,” he said. The mayor reiterated that Karachi’s Union Councils belong to the people, not any political party.
