Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said streets in Karachi are littered with garbage heaps and sewage overflow and the chief minister of Sindh is responsible for this who is holding the charge of chairman of solid waste management board and Karachi Water & Sewerage Board. I would say to people of Karachi that they stop paying taxes to the Sindh government. Citizens of Karachi pay 350 billion rupees in taxes but their problems were not addressed by anyone. People should do peaceful protest so that basic city problems could be resolved.
Chief secretary should as representative of federation, correct these bodies because citizens are in great trouble and the situation would not be good if they responded. He expressed these views while talking to media representatives on the occasion of launching of cleanliness drive in Malir, Saudabad area of district Korangi with the collaboration of Bahria Town on Tuesday.
Deputy Mayor Syed Arshad Hasan, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr.Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, chairman DMC Korangi Nayyar Raza, vice chairman Syed Ahmer Ali, MPA Hameed-uz-Zafar, general manager of Bahria town Karachi Commander Zulfiqar Ahmed and other elected representatives and municipal officers were also present on this occasion. Mayor Karachi said that the campaign we started would though give convenient for the time being but it is not the permanent solution. The water stayed in streets was not rain water but sewage overflow and the problem would be solved only when the KWSB and solid waste management board are corrected.
These organizations were kept by the chief minister to himself. Solid waste management board spent Rs24billion on cleaning in Karachi but still tons of garbage littered in Karachi streets. He said the Sindh government would be held responsible if contagious diseases are spread in the city as this would result in thousands of deaths. He said the chief secretary cancelled the contract of solid waste management board in district East which is a proof of its failure. He said the citizens of Karachi pay annually 350 billion rupees in motor vehicle, property, provincial, tower, SBCA and other taxes and despite that their problems are increasing day by day. Therefore, they should now stop paying these taxes and stage peaceful protest.
Mayor Karachi said Karachi being devastated and I would again request the prime minister of Pakistan that people of Karachi have voted for you therefore the federal government should pay attention on Karachi problems. General Manager of Bahria Town Commander Zulfiqar Ahmed said that chairman of Bahria Town is always ready to provide all possible help for progress of the country.
Wherever we were called up we got there to serve. We have come here with 50 dumpers on the request of Mayor Karachi to clean the area. People should understand that we are not related to any political party and only with the spirit of public service we are providing cooperation in cleanliness works in Karachi.
