Mayor assures cooperation to traders

Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said the Sindh Government has not given even a single penny during last eleven months for uplift projects in the city. How could development continue in such situation. They should spend some amount from the revenue collected by the provincial and federal government in Karachi.
We not only understand the problems of trader’s community in Karachi but also raising this issue at every forum so these could be resolved and commercial activities could get some boost which ultimately provide strength to the national economy. He said this while talking to a delegation of the Karachi Tajir Ittehad which led by its chairman Ateeq Mir called on him in his office on Monday. Deputy Mayor Arshad Hasan, chairmen of different committees and department heads were also present on this occasion. The delegation asked the mayor to expedite the provision of alternate business place for traders who have been displaced in the anti-encroachments action.
They also gave suggestion for cleaning of drain near Civil Hospital, removal of encroachments and transforming the Robson Road near Jama Cloth Market at model road. Mayor Karachi said that trade and business community were major contributor in the national exchequer therefore they should get more facilities. He said all efforts were on to facilitate these traders, however the action against encroachments was under the directive of the Supreme Court and it became essential due to the mistakes that had been done in past.
The roads being widened and pavements cleared to provide convenience to pedestrian and traffic on roads. He said to traders to cooperate with KMC in the road and foot path construction and maintenance so these works could be carried out speedily. Ateeq Mir thanked the mayor for taking interest in resolution of traders’ problems and solved the issues pertaining to roads and sewage overflow in various areas including Garden and Urdu Bazar. He assured all support to KMC in its action against encroachments.
