May 9 riots: ID cards of 18 PTI leaders blocked

ISLAMABAD- The national identity cards of 18 leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Murad Saeed and Hammad Azhar, were blocked for not joining investigation in a case related to May 9 incidents.

Authorities said the identity documents were blocked at a request made by the police. Azam Swati, Ali Amin Gandapur, Masroor Javed, Aslam Iqbal, Karamat Khokhar, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Jamshed Cheema, Zubeir Niazi, Malik Nadeem Abbas, and Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan are among the PTI leaders whose ID cards have been blocked.

The police officials stated that the ID cards of the accused will remain blocked until they join the investigations and appear before the anti-terrorism court.

Authorities said the suspects will no longer be able to avail the facilities entitled for the holders of the identity cards.

Police launched a crackdown against the PTI leaders and workers following the May 9 incidents during which enraged protesters attacked military installments in different cities following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan in Al-Qadir Trust case.
