Lahore Waste Management Company is working tirelessly to ensure best possible cleanliness services in the city. The contract with the Turkish contractors Albayrak and Ozpak will be expired on 31st December, 2020, and the management has decided not to extend the existing agreement. Due to the ongoing strike by Turkish contractors, the LWMC is carrying out clean-up operations in the city with the help of its limited machinery.
As per the PPRA rules the new contracts for the cleanliness of the city will take three to four months. During these three to four months LWMC has planned to keep the city clean by its limited resources and planned an interim model as well. In addition to this LWMC has also requested the District Administration, and other departments i.e. LDA, MCL, WASA, PHA, City Traffic Police, to provide the machinery required for the cleanliness operation in the city. CEO LWMC stated that to provide cleanliness in our responsibility and topmost priority.
The department is working day and night in this regard. He also said that the LWMC, district administration and provincial departments will work collectively to ensure the effective cleanliness arrangements in the city during interim period. He also appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the department and avoid littering. Spokesperson LWMC briefed that the citizens can register their waste related complaints on LWMC helpline 1139 or by using mobile based application Clean Lahore.
