Lt Gen Munir Afsar’s appointment as Nadra chairman confirmed for 3 years

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar as Chairman of National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) for three years.

Afsar was appointed as Nadra chairman during the tenure of the caretaker government last year in October till further orders.

Now, the elected government has approved an amendment to the relevant rules to appoint a serving officer of Pakistan Army.

The federal cabinet has approved the inclusion of Rule 7A in the NADRA Rules 2020. Under Rule 7A, any serving officer can be appointed as the Chairman of NADRA in the national interest, provided that the grade of the serving officer is not less than Grade 21, reports said.

Let it be known that Lt Gen Munir Afsar previously served as Inspector General Communication & Information Technology, (IG C&IT). He belongs to 16 Punjab Regiment and 81 PMA Long Course. Lt Gen Afsar, who is also recipient of Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), was promoted to the three-star rank, in October 2022.
