LAHORE – The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) provides electric power distribution in five main districts of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara and Nankana Sahib.

Besides providing electricity facilities to millions of customers in its service area, it also creates significant number of jobs for the residents of the jurisdiction.

In latest turn of events, LESCO has taken a major decision regarding jobs and it would serve a blow to those who are aspiring to join the company.

Reports said LESCO has decided to stop hiring employees and officers on permanent basis. It will not recruit individuals on contract basis from now on.

The decision would prove a setback to engineers, who have been working for the company for several years, will not get permanent status.

The company also decided to integrate the allowances provided to the officers into their salaries as employees will no longer be able to get these benefits upon retirement or resignation.

Meanwhile, during the 379 days of the grand anti-theft campaign, the spokesman mentioned, the LESCO detected pilferage on 138,901 power connections and 131,471 FIRs have been registered against electricity thieves in the relevant police stations, while 42,440 accused have so far been arrested by the police. The LESCO has so far charged a total of 151,508,364 detection units worth Rs 5,426,764,266 to all the power pilferers.
