Bielsa was dismissed after a 4-0 defeat against Tottenham, leaving Leeds 16th in the Premier League points table and just two points above the relegation zone.
The former RB Salzburg coach has now been tasked with turning around the club’s recent form.
Leeds has not won in six league outings.
His last coaching assignment was at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga in place of the departing Julian Nagelsmann.
Marsch, who has also coached New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Salzburg left the German club in December last year with mutual consent after a five-month spell.
He enjoyed a successful spell in Salzburg winning a league and cup double in his first season.
Marsch was also instrumental in the development of Erling Haaland before the Norway striker joined Borussia Dortmund in 2019.
Speaking about the appointment, Leeds United Director of Football Victor Orta said: “We are delighted to welcome Jesse to the club and excited for him to lead us into this new chapter.
Jesse Marsch and Leeds face a trip to Leicester on Saturday in the Premier League.
