RIYADH – It is mandatory for foreign workers, including Pakistanis, to get their Iqama or residency permit renewed soon after the expiry of the document as invalid Iqama can land you in trouble.

The Saudi authorities said that the residents of foreign countries must renew their Iqama within three days of its expiry date.

The expats could face a fine for failing to renew the permit within three days. Authorities said a fine of 500 Saudi Riyal will be imposed in case of delay in Iqama renewal for first time.

The penalty amount will be increased to 1,000 Saudi Riyals over delay for second time.

Earlier, The Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced major updates regarding temporary work visas or seasonal work visas for Hajj and Umrah services.

Previously, the temporary work visa allowed an individual to stay for up to 90 days in the Kingdom but the latest change in regulations allows the seasons visa holders to extend their stay for an additional 90 days.

The decision is a part of broader reforms, which were approved by the Saudi Cabinet. It aims to enhance flexibility for the private sector and improve alignment between visa policies and labour market demands, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The temporary work visa will now have a longer period, starting from Shaban 15 to the end of Muharram.

The move also aims at facilitating the companies operate during the Umrah season so they can easily hire temporary workers for services.

The kingdom has also announced measures to ensure transparency in the visa process. The company will required to submit a signed employment contract and medical insurance of workers before the visa is issued for the temporary workers.
