Sindh Minister for Interior, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, has made strides in bolstering law enforcement through technology during his visit to Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China. Accompanied by Huawei’s Vice President of Global Product Sector, Zhang Yong, the minister held productive discussions on advancing the province’s Safe Cities projects.
Lanjar met Huawei’s Global CEO and Vice President Li Jinfeng, who briefed him on innovative technologies, including body-worn cameras, smart tracking watches, and tablets integrated with advanced smart boards.
These technologies are designed to enhance information sharing and reduce response times—critical factors for improving law enforcement efficiency.
During the visit, the minister underscored the importance of establishing a dedicated LTE network for the Sindh Police, a project that Huawei expressed commitment to supporting.
“Our vision is to transition from a safe city to a safe province,” Lanjar stated, highlighting plans to expand the Safe Cities initiative to Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
A significant milestone of the visit was the signing of an agreement to further the Safe Cities projects, with Huawei officials confirming progress on current initiatives and endorsing completed work. Huawei reiterated its longstanding partnership with Pakistan, pledging to continue its collaboration with the Sindh Home Department. Minister Lanjar expressed gratitude for Huawei’s hospitality and reaffirmed the Sindh government’s dedication to leveraging advanced technology to improve law and order.
He credited the vision of Pakistan People’s Party leaders, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, for prioritizing public safety and technological advancement.
