Lahore, Punjab weather update; widespread rains, hailstorm likely

LAHORE – Widespread rains, isolated hailstorms with snowfall over the mountains are likely in parts of Punjab on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly wave prevails over western parts of Pakistan. It may grip most parts of the country tonight and persist till Sunday.

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Multan, Kot Addu, Layyah, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Muzaffar Garh, Khanpur, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum on Thursday night. Cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm and snowfall is likely in Murree, Galyat and surroundings during the period.

On Friday and Saturday, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Minaal, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Multan, Kot Addu, Layyah, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Okara, Lahore and Kasur. Heavy falls and hailstorms are also likely at isolated places during the period. Intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorm and snowfall is likely in Murree, Galyat and surroundings. Heavy falls and moderate to heavy snowfall are also likely during the period.

Heavy rain/snowfall may cause closure of roads in Murree, Galyat. Windstorm may damage lose structures like poles and solar panels. Tourists are advised to remain careful during the period.

Lahore’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 09-11 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed in Lahore and most districts of the province during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in upper districts. However, Bhakkar received 02 mm rain.

Murree remained the coldest place in the province where temperature dropped to 01 C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 76 per cent.

In Lahore, minimum temperature was recorded at 10 C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 40 per cent.
