Lahore, Punjab weather update; significant monsoon rains expected

LAHORE – Significant monsoon rains and gusty winds are expected in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Monday night and Tuesday.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate central and southern parts of Pakistan. They will likely penetrate upper parts of the country tonight.

Under these weather conditions, monsoon rains and gusty winds are expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba. Tek Singh, Chiniot and Faisalabad on Monday night. Heavy falls may also occur in Murree, Galliyat, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Hafizabad.

On Tuesday, more intermittent monsoon rains and gusty winds are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sahiwal, Chiniot, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Heavy falls may also occur in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahaudin, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Hafizabad.

Widespread rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Dera Ghazi Khan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum and Gujrat. Downpours may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Landslides may disrupt traffic in vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galliyat.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 34-36°C on Tuesday and 33-35°C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, rain-wind/thundershowers occurred in parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Multan remained the hottest places in Punjab where the maximum temperature was recorded at 38°C.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 78 per cent.
