Lahore experiences hottest day as heatwaves persist in Punjab

Lahore experienced the hottest day of this summer with the mercury rising as high as 44°C on Wednesday.

Experts have predicted the prevailing harsh weather conditions to persist in Lahore and other districts of Punjab during the current week.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. High pressure at the upper atmospheric level prevails over the central and southern parts of the country and will likely persist till May 24.

Under these conditions, very hot and dry weather is predicted in Lahore and most districts of Punjab on Thursday and the next two days.

Day temperatures will likely remain between 04°C to 06°C above normal levels in southern Punjab. Day temperatures will likely remain between 05°C to 07°C above normal levels in central and upper Punjab.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 43°C and 45°C on Thursday and between 44°C and 46°C on Friday.

Meanwhile, heatwaves prevailed in Lahore and most districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Dera Ghazi Khan remained the hottest place in Punjab, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 49°C. The maximum temperature in Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur was recorded at 48°C.

In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 44°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 22 per cent.
