ISLAMABAD – Pakistan promoted Army Chief Syed Asim Munir to honorary rank of field marshal after most intense military clash with India in early May, which added another chapter of Indian humiliation.

The country marked historic moment with release of the first official picture of Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the distinguished five-star insignia. The snap shows Army Chief in full ceremonial attire, holding a baton and bearing the Field Marshal rank on his shoulders—signifying the highest honorary military recognition in the country.

The snap’s release comes after unexpected postponement of a grand investiture ceremony that was scheduled to take place at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President’s House, in Islamabad. The event, planned for Tuesday evening, was deferred at the personal request of Field Marshal Munir in light of the tragic school bus bombing in Khuzdar, which claimed the lives of several children.

The ceremony was set to be attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, cabinet members, and senior civil and military leaders, and was meant to officially bestow the five-star rank on the Army Chief in recognition of his exemplary leadership and service.
