At 91, Pakistani-origin British businessman Sir Anwar Pervez remains a prominent figure in the UK business community as his decades-old business legacy continued to expand across Pakistan.
Sir Anwar is Chairman Emeritus of Bestway Group, which owns one of the United Kingdom’s largest food wholesale businesses. Although he built his fortune in Britain, the group has developed a significant corporate presence in Pakistan through investments in banking, cement and, more recently, the automotive sector.
Bestway began making major investments in Pakistan in the 1990s and owns United Bank Limited (UBL), one of the country’s major banks. Its subsidiary, Bestway Cement, also has the largest production capacity in Pakistan’s cement industry.
In February, the group further expanded its footprint by acquiring an automotive assembly plant at Port Qasim in Karachi. Bestway has since announced plans to introduce three new vehicles in partnership with Chinese automaker Geely.
The move marks Bestway’s entry into a rapidly expanding Pakistani automotive market, where other major business groups, including the Manshas and Tabbas, have also established a presence.
With operations spanning banking, cement and automobiles, Bestway’s growing investments highlight the continued expansion of Sir Anwar Pervez’s business interests in Pakistan after decades of building a global corporate group.
