The labourer union of Torkham in the leadership of Farman Ali Shinwari have staged a protest demo and sit in at Torkham border here on Monday demanding to reopen the border for pedestrians so that they could earn livelihood for their families. Ali Shinwari, the president of Torkham laborer union said that the poor labourers community of the area have suffered due to the closure of the border and their children were facing hunger, discrimination and injustice now a days.
The authorities should reopen the border and the border reopening would be a great kindness of authorities over the poor people of the area. Shinwari stated. Talking to this scribe, Israr Shinwari, the former president of Tanzeem-e-Najawanan-e-Qabail said that the laborers at Torkham have suffered due to the closure of Pak-Afghan border Torkham and they were hardly affording the daily expenses of their families. The laborers on both sides of Torkham were on strike demanding the reopening of the border. Israr said
He said that it was injustice with the locals and laborers of the area that the border had been closed since march,2020 for pedestrians which badly affected the local people. The Khyber chamber of commerce and industries representative Retd,Colonel Siddiq Afridi also visited and met the protesting laborers in Torkham. He ensured the laborers that soon the border would be reopened as he has already conveyed the message of laborers, traders to the concerned authorities.
