Member of provincial assembly from MQM-P Ali Khurshidi lambasted the government’s handling of Karachi’s critical issues, including water scarcity and delayed infrastructure projects. Khurshidi’s remarks were part of his response to recent budget discussions, where he began by referencing Bilawal Bhutto’s speech and proceeded to detail the city’s pressing problems. Furthermore, Khurshidi criticized K-Electric’s monopolistic behavior and called for filing FIRs against its CEO, likening the company’s actions to those of an unchallenged despot. He urged the police to take action against K-Electric officials and highlighted the unfair punishment of entire communities for the actions of a few.
Ali Khurshidi called for collective efforts to resolve Karachi’s issues and emphasized the need for sincere dialogue to bridge the urban-rural divide in Sindh. He invited discussions on both Karachi and Larkana’s problems to find common solutions for the province’s betterment. He highlighted that Karachi, one of the world’s largest cities, requires 1,200 MGD of water but receives only 450-500 MGD. The long-delayed K-IV project has once again failed to meet its completion deadline. Khurshidi emphasized that Karachi’s residents are indifferent to whether the federal or provincial government addresses their issues; they simply want solutions.
Khurshidi accused both governments of neglecting the K-IV project and warned that its initiation would disrupt the entire city. He also criticized the lack of serious efforts to address Karachi’s water needs and the ongoing power outages, urging K-Electric to avoid load shedding during the heatwave. In the assembly, chants of “Water, water” echoed as members expressed their frustration. Khurshidi noted the government’s lack of urgency and called for decisive action to improve the city’s water and power supply. Regarding education, Khurshidi condemned the pervasive cheating in matriculation exams and the need for political neutrality in the education department. He shared anecdotes of exam papers being distributed in hotels in Badin, underscoring the systemic corruption affecting Sindh’s youth.
Khurshidi also addressed illegal land grabs in Karachi, revealing that despite repeated complaints and notifying the mayor, no substantial action has been taken against the land mafia. He expressed frustration over the government’s contradictory statements and the lack of accountability.
