The Sindh government has sent back Karachi Water and Sewerage Board-KWSB Managing Director Asadullah Khan on his original post as deputy managing director-DMD Technical Services.

Through a notification issued by Sindh chief secretary, Farida Salam, Chief Engineer Civil is now new KWSB managing director.

The notification reads: Farida Salam being senior most officer of KWSB is appointed as adhoc managing director. She is only allowed to take day-to-day arrangement of KWSB in the light of orders of Honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan dated 8-03-22.

The adhoc KWSB managing director shall discharge her duties till the recruitment of regular KWSB managing director through the competitive process.

This happens just before a month of KWSB former managing director Asadullah Khan’s retirement. His services tenure is to complete by 1 May, 2022.

Last time, he was replaced by Khalid Mehmood Shaikh in July 2020 as KWSB managing director. However, Asadullah Khan retained the slot again in September 2020.

With continuous services of 18-month as KWSB managing director, Asadullah Khan is once again sent back to his original post of KWSB DMD (Technical Services).

Basically, the post of KWSB managing director is a cadre post, which means an officer, who passed competitive civil services examinations, is allowed to hold the post.

However, the Sindh government was given an additional charge of KWSB managing director to Asadullah Khan.

Recently, the court ordered Sindh government to appoint a professional from private sector having experience of at least 20years in water sector.

The government has already given an advertisement in local news publications for searching of a permanent KWSB managing director.
