The city has seen a troubling rise in electrocution incidents, with 121 reported cases between June 2023 and May 2024, according to Mehfooz Pakistan, a safety organization. This alarming statistic underscores a persistent danger in both residential and commercial settings, with over half of these incidents proving fatal. Data reveals that out of the 121 incidents, 66 (54.5%) were fatal, while 55 (45.5%) were non-fatal.

The incidents were divided between internal and external causes, with 53 (43.8%) occurring within premises and 68 (56.2%) due to external factors. Among internal causes, the majority were due to faulty wiring and damaged insulation (25 incidents, 39.06%), followed by domestic appliances or heavy electrical equipment (12 incidents each from appliances and water motors), and other undetermined factors.

External causes included theft or illegal installations (40 incidents, 58.83%), current leakage (11 incidents, 16.18%), encroachment (9 incidents, 13.24%), interference with K-Electric networks or internet cables (6 incidents, 8.82%), and compromised safe distances (2 incidents).
