Karachi Mayor issues high alert ahead of cyclone

Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar has directed the fire brigade, municipal services staff, city wardens and medical department to be remained on their duty in view of the cyclone forecast. Declaring the state of emergency in concerned departments the mayor has also appealed to citizens to avoid going to Hawks Bay or to other recreation points at coastal belt and if they are already there make it sure to leave the site immediately.
The Mayor also directed the rescue staff at seaside and city wardens to inform the people about precautionary measures and stop them going to sea.
He said that the situation needs attention and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and K-Electric should therefore take the precautionary measures.
He also said to citizens to avoid standing beneath hoardings during high winds and refrain from touching electric poles in rains.
He also instructed the municipal services department to keep alert and take immediate measures for drainage of water in case of rains.
