Former caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar urged Pakistanis to unite in addressing both internal and external challenges during a lecture at the University of Karachi’s Jinnah Auditorium.

Speaking to students and faculty, he emphasized the critical role of youth in fostering national harmony and combating divisive narratives. Kakar highlighted the importance of respectful dialogue and critical thinking, urging young people to engage in constructive debates without spreading negativity. He expressed concern over the nation’s focus on past failures, saying, “Are we the only nation to have lost a war?

We must reject mockery and propaganda that hinder our mental growth.” The former interim PM criticized extremism, militancy, and societal issues such as tax evasion and extortion, calling on the youth to act as a “solid wall” against these threats.

He stressed the need for education to empower young minds, describing it as essential for developing empathy, tolerance, and leadership skills. Chairperson of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, Dr. S. M. Tariq Rafi, echoed Kakar’s sentiments, noting that universities play a pivotal role in bridging societal divides by fostering open dialogue.

He encouraged youth to lead efforts to resolve political polarization and strengthen national unity. KU Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi underscored the importance of tolerance and reforms for nation-building, urging individuals to correct themselves to collectively strengthen Pakistan.
