Journalist, YouTuber Asad Toor arrested for ‘maligning’ SC judges

ISLAMABAD – Controversial journalist and YouTuber Asad Toor has been arrested by Federal Investigation Agency, his lawyer Imaan Mazari said.

Imaan Mazari, the counsel of an outspoken commentator, shared update on social media, saying Asad Toor was arrested by officials of the apex investigation agency.

The legal counsel said Asad Toor spent several hours in the FIA office while the FIA office had been locked and lights switched off.

Toor was held after being summoned by officials on charges related to a smear campaign against Supreme Court judges.

The Islamabad-based journalist said he had not been told about any allegations against him but was given a questionnaire.

Asad Toor, a journalist and known critic of establishment, is known for sharing blunt videos on social sites. He reports from Supreme Court of Pakistan, and had worked with several media organisations.

For his contentious views, Asad Ali faced harassment, assault and even abduction. In 2021, he was tied up, and roughed up in his apartment in capital by three unidentified attackers.

Journalists’ organizations also staged agitation outside Press Club against assault on YouTuber.
