Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi has established a census monitoring cell and launched a web portal (http://www.ji-census-cell.com) to monitor the ongoing enumeration process in the city. The JI leader inaugurated the cell at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, here on Wednesday. Later, the JI leader while addressing the media said that the government has once again ambushed the rights of Karachi and Karachiites by flawed census in the city. He highlighted that according to the data available with NADRA, the population of Karachi was over 30 million. Similarly, he said, there are 2.3 million domestic meters of natural gas in the city.
He added that a large number of areas in the mega city use gas cylinders and other means due to unavailability of gas pipelines and connections.
In a city like Karachi, multiple families lives in a single building under the joint family system, he said, adding that in this backdrop if a single gas meter caters fifteen people then it also exceeds the 30 million mark.
However, he said, the census is all set to show the population of Karachi less than 20 million. He also highlighted that there are more than 3.4 million electricity meters in the mega city and all these statistics clearly shows that the population of Karachi is more than 30 million by all means.
The JI leader said that the feudal mindset in the corridors of power wants to report the population of urban areas less than the rural areas in order to maintain their rule in the country. He said that the 90 percent statistics of the census are showing the population of Karachi and Hyderabad much less than the actual one.
He said that Karachiites will not accept any more attack on their rights in the name of digital census. He added that loopholes were left in the process of census in order to obtain results of own will.
