Political and Economic Chief of Consulate General of Japan Ms Kirara Nakamura on Monday called on Administrator Karachi, Sindh government spokesman and CM Advisor on Law Barrister Murtaza Wahab at Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and discussed issues of mutual interest.
Metropolitan Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi was also present on the occasion. Wahab said that Japan and Pakistan have a long and friendly relationship.
He said that Japan has made tremendous progress in the field of industry and technology in a short period of time, which is why there is a worldwide demand for Japanese products. “Industrial enterprises in Pakistan can benefit greatly from Japan’s financial and technical assistance,” he added.
The administrator said that the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi is playing an important role in this regard.
Informing the Japanese Political and Economic Chief about the improvement and maintenance of infrastructure in Karachi, the Administrator Karachi said that work is being done in various spheres of civic life to provide the best possible local government facilities to the citizens.
“Facilities are being improved especially in the industrial zones to promote industrial and business activities as these institutions provide employment to millions of people,” the Administrator said.
He was of the view that Karachi is an important city of the region in terms of its geographical location with two ports and an international airport.
Cargo ships ply at Karachi’s ports all year round.He said that the headquarters of various financial and banking institutions are also located in Karachi and this city plays an important role in the country’s economy.
He said that the Japanese government is cooperating in development projects in Karachi and other cities in Pakistan.
Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that all possible assistance is being provided to the Japanese experts working in Karachi and it is hoped that this cooperation will be further expanded in the future.
The Japanese Political and Economic Chief conveyed the best wishes of the Japanese Government to the Administrator Karachi and expressed interest in the ongoing development work in Karachi.
The Administrator Karachi also presented a shield on behalf of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to the Political and Economic Chief of the Consulate General of Japan, Ms. Kirara Nakamura.
