Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over will observe the Jammu Martyrs’ Day on Saturday to reaffirm the resolve to continue the martyrs’ mission till the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination.

Hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris were massacred by the forces of Maharaja Hari Singh, Indian army and Hindu extremists in different parts of Jammu region while they were migrating to Pakistan during the first week of November in 1947.

Hurriyat leaders and organizations in their statements while paying tributes to the Jammu martyrs said that their blood would not go waste.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference General Secretary, Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani, in a statement issued in Srinagar condemned the frequent cordon and search operations carried out by Indian occupation forces in the territory.

He lamented that innocent people were subjected to third-degree torture during these operations.

Indian troops continued violent cordon and search operations in different areas of Shopian, Baramulla, Pulwama, Rajouri and Poonch districts.

Meanwhile, deployment of 50 more Indian paramilitary companies in the occupied territory continued to draw flak from across the political aisle in the territory.

Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and Jammu and Kashmir National Front in their statements issued in Srinagar said that massive concentration of Indian troops had been the main reason behind the continued bloodshed in the territory.

They termed the deployment of more Indian troops as yet another attempt by the Modi-led apartheid regime to suppress Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle for right to self-determination.

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mastafa Kamal addressing party workers in Srinagar said the deployment of extra Indian forces belies Modi government’s normalcy claim in the territory.

On the other hand, a Kashmiri youth delegate, Muzdalfa Ahmed, in an informal debate on the UN Secretary General’s report titled “Our Common Agenda” in UN General Assembly’s Third Committee in New York urged the United Nations to hold India accountable for human rights abuses in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

She demanded the effective role by the World Body in resolving the Kashmir dispute through exercise of the right to self-determination, forcibly denied to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.—KMS
