ITP revises fine amount on rules violations

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has increased the penalties for traffic violations in the capital city. An official notification issued by the Ministry of Interior has set Rs500 as the minimum amount of traffic violations. According to a traffic police spokesperson, the step is part of a broader effort to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations, which play a vital role in preventing accidents.

He said the move aimed to strengthen the enforcement of traffic laws and promote safer roads for all citizens. According to new figures, fines for various violations have been specified, for instance, upon exceeding the speed limit motorcyclists will be charged Rs1,000, motor car Rs 1,500, PSVs Rs 2,000, HTVs Rs 2,500. Similarly, Rs 2,000 will be charged for signal violations, one way violation will be charged Rs 1,000 for motorcycles, Rs 2,000 for cars, Rs 8,000 for PSVs. Likewise, for illegal parking Rs 1,000 will be charged and over the use of tinted glasses a ticket of Rs 1,500 will be issued.

The reckless drivers will be charged Rs 2,000 while the underage will have to pay Rs 2,500.

Those without license driving will be fined as follows: For motorcycles Rs 1,000, cars Rs 2,000, HTVs Rs 8,000 will be charged.

The notification goes on to say that for unregistered motorcycles and auto rickshaws (by the way Islamabad doesn’t have the rickshaws) Rs 1,000, illegal parking of goods vehicles Rs 2,000, wrong-way driving Rs 1,000, using a mobile phone while driving Rs 1,000 for motorcycles, 2,000 for cars, 8000 for HTVs will be charged. Unlawful overtaking will be slapped a fine of Rs1,000 for motorcycles, for cars 2,000 and for HTVs, it will be Rs 8,000.
