The Sindh Revenue Board has collected Rs 57 billion in taxes in the last six months, an improvement of 16 percent over the previous year. On the other hand, PTI has failed to improve tax collection. The FBR’s performance is that it has increased tax collection by only five percent. IT means that performance of Sindh Revenue Board is better than FBR. These views were expressed by Sindh Government Spokesperson and Adviser to CM on Environment and Coastal Development Barrister Murtaza Wahab at a press conference in Sindh Assembly building on Saturday. He said that the federal ministers have nothing to say about their performance and hoped , “May the federal government focus on its work.” Wahab said the Prison Act of 1853 is in force throughout the country and a new progressive law has been enacted in Sindh regarding jails and prisoners. The Sindh government has started implementing a new law on prisons. Under the prevailing jail law, the Sindh government has decided to release eight sick convicts for four months. He informed the reporters that a meeting of the Sindh Assembly has been convened on January 6. The Sindh government has enacted a law punishing the users of synthetic drugs. “Ice and other new types of drugs users can be punished by filing cases under the new law. Wahab said, “We are reforming the criminal justice system. An FIR does not mean an arrest. Courts in Pakistan have laid down rules for cases and arrests. Police make arrests only when there is solid evidence. Amendments to the criminal justice system will be made soon.”
