Islamic New Year public holiday announced in Pakistan’s province

PESHAWAR – A public holiday has been announced to mark the starts of new Islamic year in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

The provincial government has issued a notification in this regard, stating that public holiday will be observed on first day of holy month of Muharram.

The holiday on the first day of the Islamic month is contingent upon the sighting of the Muharram moon. It said that all government offices, educational institutions, and businesses would remain closed across the province.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir, is scheduled to meet on July 6 for moon sighting.

New Islamic Year Public Holiday Date

If the moon is sighted on July 6, there will be public holiday July 7 (Sunday) and if it is not sighted, the holiday will be observed on July 8 (Monday).
