5,700 private students quit their institutions, opt for FDE model schools

In a significant achievement, the Islamabad school reforms initiative has led to a substantial increase in student enrollment with 5,700 students transferring to Islamabad Model government schools in just a few months.

According to the data, the Islamabad College for Boys (ICB) G-6/3 tops among the government schools where 653 students of various private institutions have got admission during last couple of months.

The Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) Sihala, comes second giving admission to 554 students of private schools. The MCB) F-7/3 is the third in the list with 180 private students of private institutions. The private institutions students quit their schools and got admission there.

Similarly, 170 students have chosen the IMCB F-8/4.

Among girls, 400 students of various private institutions have quit their schools and got admission in Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) Bahara Kahu, 346 female students of private institutions have switched over to the Islamabad College for Girls F-6/2, 225 in IMCG F-6/2 and 94 in IMCG (PG) F-7/4.

This data, compiled from select model colleges, hints at a promising trend that is expected to expand exponentially as reforms extend to rural schools.

According to an official of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), some 5,700 students have been transferred to Islamabad Model government schools after the recent reforms and introduction of IT and e-learning in the Model Schools and colleges. The refurbishment of schools’ buildings, and facelift to the FDE-run model schools have also contributed to the surge in enrollment and admission of private school students in these schools, the official further said. The reforms introduced by the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training (FE&PT) will be extended to rural schools, anticipating exponential growth, the official said adding the initiative focuses on quality education, infrastructure, and teacher training.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Islamabad school reforms initiative, launched earlier this year, aimed at revamping the education sector by introducing innovative teaching methods, improving infrastructure, and enhancing teacher training. The program’s success is evident in the significant influx of students transferring from private schools to government institutions, the official said.

“This is a testament to the government’s commitment to providing quality education,” said Riffat Jabeen, Director of Education. She was of the view that as the initiative expanded to the rural areas, it was anticipated that an exponential increase in student transfers would take place. “Rural schools will benefit from upgraded infrastructure, digital classrooms, and trained teachers,” she added.
