Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Pakistan weather update; widespread monsoon rains likely

ISLAMABAD – More intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Tuesday night and the following two days.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate upper/central parts of Pakistan. A trough of westerly wave also prevails over upper/central parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, more rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in the twin cities, Punjab, Pothohar region, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and Sindh on Tuesday night and the next two days with occasional gaps. Isolated heavy falls are also likely in Punjab, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period.

Heavy falls may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Malakand, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kurrum, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera, Swabi, Kashmir, Dera Ghazi Khan, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu and Loralai. Urban flooding is also expected in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from tonight to 24th July. Landslides may disrupt traffic in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 36-38°C on Wednesday and 35-37°C on Thursday.

Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 35-37°C on Wednesday and 34-36°C on Thursday.

Meanwhile, rain-windstorm/thundershower occurred in the twin cities and parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours.

Dalbandin remained the hottest place in the country where the maximum temperature was recorded at 47°C. Maximum temperature in Nokkundi and Sibbi was recorded at 46°C, and Jacobabad at 45°C.

In Islamabad, maximum temperature was recorded at 28°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 88 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, maximum temperature was recorded at 27°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 71 per cent.
