ISLAMABAD – Monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday with occasional gaps.
Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan at lower tropospheric levels. They will likely penetrate central parts of the country from tomorrow. A westerly wave also prevails over upper parts of the country.
Under these weather conditions, intermittent monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds are likely in the twin cities, Potohar region, Northeast Punjab, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Rains are also likely at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, South/Central Punjab, Northeast/South Baluchistan and Southeast/Upper Sindh.
Heavy rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Hafizabad, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Karak and Kashmir from tonight to 11th August.
Downpour may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Mardan, Nowshera and Peshawar.
Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 35-37°C on Saturday and Sunday.
Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 33-35°C on Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, rain-wind/thundershowers occurred at isolated places in North Balochistan, Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Southeast Sindh during the last 24 hours.

Nokkundi remained the hottest place in the country where the maximum temperature was recorded at 46°C. Maximum temperature in Chilas and Dalbandin was recorded at 44°C.
In Islamabad, maximum temperature was recorded at 36°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 71 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, maximum temperature was recorded at 34°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 62 per cent.
