Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Pakistan weather; cold wave continues to persist

ISLAMABAD – Cold wave will continue to persist in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave will likely affect northern areas of the country tomorrow.

Under these weather conditions, mainly cold and dry weather will continue to persist in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan on Friday night and during the weekend.

Very cold weather is expected in upper parts. Fog (in patches) is likely in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during night/morning hours. Frost is likely in Islamabad, Pothohar region and few plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between -01°C to 01°C on Saturday and 00 -02°C on Sunday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 02-04°C on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Extremely cold weather prevailed in hilly areas. Fog persisted in places of Punjab.

Leh and Skardu remained the coldest places in Pakistan where the temperature dropped 12°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Gilgit was recorded at -08°C, Gopis and Kalat -07°C, Astore, Quetta and Ziarat -06°C, Bagrote, Chitral, Dir anmd Kalam -05°C, and Rawlakot and Hunza at -04°C.

In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 0°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 59 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 02°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 36 per cent.
