TEHRAN – Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi is slated to visit Pakistan next week, the Iranian Embassy confirmed.
Raisi, 63, will be the first head of state to visit the Asian nation since Shehbaz Sharif assumed office as prime minister.
As the official schedule has yet to be announced, media reports said Raisi will land in the country on April 22 for two days.
He was the first to felicitate PM Sharif on his new role. In his upcoming visit, President Raisi will likely focus on recent developments and regional security issues.
Pakistani President Asif Zardari will also host a banquet in honor of his Iran counterpart.
Raisi’s visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between Islamabad and Tehran, months after two sides faced missile exchanges. Raisi’s agenda includes discussions on bilateral relations, security cooperation, a gas pipeline, and a potential free trade agreement (FTA).
Furthermore, two leaders will share views on regional and international issues such as the situation in Afghanistan and the Palestinian problem.
