A seminar on the subject of political detainees was organized at the Press Club of India in New Delhi in which many political and social figures, apart from journalists and legal experts, participated.

Senior journalist and United Peace Alliance Chairman Mir Shahid Saleem represented Jammu and Kashmir in the seminar.

He told the participants of the seminar how the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir are being attacked, adding after August 5, 2019, the political, democratic and economic rights of the people of Kashmir are being taken away.

He appealed to the civil society of India to play their key role to bring the people of Jammu and Kashmir out of their difficulties and sufferings.

The seminar was also addressed by Indian parliamentarian Professor Manoj Jaha, former Indian foreign minister Salman Khurshid, former parliamentarians Mohammad Adeeb and KC Tyagi and well-known journalist and social activist Yogendra Yadav.

The speakers in their speeches said that the present government of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is pursuing a Muslim-killing policy and a large number of Muslim youth are imprisoned in the jails of India. They said it seems that Muslims are being treated like second-class citizens in India. At present, a large number of prisoners in Indian jails belong to the Muslim community, they added.

The speakers said that Muslim youth are trapped in false and fictitious cases for having certain political views and then they are imprisoned. They said the Muslim detainees do not get any justice even from the Indian courts.

Professor Manoj Jaha, while mentioning the ongoing atrocities in Kashmir, said it seems that New Delhi has declared war against the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said their lands are being taken away, their houses are being demolished and their business and commercial centres are being targeted. This government has no such thing as justice, compassion and mercy, but it has vowed to humiliate the Muslim society in every way, he maintained.—KMS
