UNFORTUNATELY, the western countries continue to demonstrate double standards vis-à-vis protection of human rights. It appears that they have all the concerns for all the human beings except the Muslims.
One saw its manifestation yet again when US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on Wednesday designated Pakistan as a country of particular concern for ‘violating religious freedom’, ignoring totally India where the extremist government has broken all records of oppression and atrocities against Muslims.
There is no doubt left now that such branding or human rights reports are also based on economic and political expediency. If that would not have been the case, India would also have been taken to task and designated as a country with particular concern by the US.
India is now the place where mosques are being vandalized whilst most recently in its Haryana state, restrictions have also been imposed on the Friday prayers.
Radical Hindu groups are openly desecrating and attacking the worship places of Muslims in different states. It is really becoming difficult for Muslims to live in a country which in the past claimed itself as a secular state.
The violent attacks against Muslims really indicate that India has only turned into a Hindu state where there is no respect for any other religion.
Turning the back to the crimes being committed against Muslims will only embolden the extremists groups in India to up the ante and repeat the violent episodes of what the world saw in Gujarat and most recently in Delhi in the wake of breakout of Covid-19.
We, therefore, will urge the countries like the US to be fair in its assessment and use their influence on New Delhi to get stopped the violent attacks against Muslims. It is also important for overall peace and security in the region.
Pakistan has repeatedly raised its voice for the protection of Indian Muslims and now responsibility rests with other Muslim countries to also raise voice for their brothers and sisters in India.
