ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan has warned the government that he would launch a civil disobedience movement if his key demands were not accepted.
The announcement came after the apparent failure of PTI’s “Do or Die” protest, which aimed to secure his release and garner support for the party.
In a post on the social media platform X, Imran Khan announced the formation of a five-member negotiation committee that would hold talks with the federal government on two key issues.
The demands include the release of “political prisoners” currently facing trial and the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the violent crackdown on PTI supporters during the May 9, 2023 protests and the crackdown on PTI protesters on November 26.
Imran Khan made it clear that if these demands are not fulfilled, he will start a civil disobedience movement from December 14.
In addition to the demand for the release of political prisoners, Imran Khan announced a grand rally in Peshawar on December 13 to pay tribute to the “martyrs” who, according to him, lost their lives during the Islamabad protests.
He claimed that many PTI workers are still missing and urged the Supreme Court to take notice against human rights’ violations.
“We have approached the Supreme Court, Lahore High Court, and Islamabad High Court regarding severe human rights violations but no action has been taken,” he added.
