The LPG importers have requested Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan to launch investigation against Director Customs (Intelligence and Investigation) Asim Iftikhar for unsubstantiated false blames of smuggling LPG through Taftan border on Burshane LPG (pvt) Ltd in a private TV channel programme. LPG Industries Association of Pakistan Founder Chairman Irfan Khokhar said this in a media talk on Wednesday. In a letter written to PM, copy of which is available to this scribe, the importers have termed it a move defaming the government and harassment against LPG importers, who are playing key role in maintaining supply chain of LPG throughout the country for whole year, especially in winters, when natural gas decreases and consumption increases and people rely on LPG for their household use. The importers said that causing anarchy by harassing them must be investigated as there must be a hidden propaganda behind this unwarranted move. The letter reads., “Taftan is an authentic source for LPG and all taxes and duties are paid while importing LPG through the border. The baseless allegations on LPG importers will not only cause panic among them but will also bring shortfall of LPG, which will be a major disaster and will lead to energy crisis in Pakistan.” The importers said that LPG is the most economic substitute of petrol/diesel in Pakistan and plays a major role in sustaining day to day energy needs of people. Founder Chairman Irfan Khokhar said that the LPG Industries Association of Pakistan has already requested the PM for availability of banking channel on Taftan border and the ministry of commerce is already working on it. The letter concludes, “We request you to please launch an investigation against Director I&I Karachi, Asim Iftikhar for unsubstantiated false blames of smuggling LPG through Taftan border on Burshane LPG Pvt. Ltd.”
