The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the power projects in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are catering to the needs of Indian states instead of fulfilling the requirements of the local people who are not receiving proper electricity supply during winter.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the PDP General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura addressing a press conference in Srinagar condemned the occupation authorities for handing over the Ratle Power Project to the Indian state of Rajasthan on 40 years lease.
He said the availability of electricity in occupied Kashmir is less than the demand, and despite that, the authorities are signing MoUs with the Indian states, selling the electricity generated here. He added that it appears that our power projects are serving the needs of Indian states instead of our people.
Hanjura also criticized the administration for the recent hike in electricity charges, stating that people in both metered and non-metered areas are facing several issues due to the hike. “There has been a hike in electricity charges in metered as well as non-metered areas. Those in non-metered areas now have to pay nearly Rs 1300 instead of Rs 920; the same is the case with those in metered areas,” he said. Hanjura demanded the roll back of the hike so that the people heave a sigh of relief.—KMS
