Regional political parties including National Con-ference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while declaring that the Modi regime’s Au-gust 5, 2019 move to abrogate Article 370 was illegal have expressed the hope that the Indian Supreme Court will declare the revocation of occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s special status ‘null and void’ in one go during the hearing of pleas on July 11.

The response came after the Indian Supreme Court on Monday announced to hear the pleas challenging the abrogation of Article 370 on Tuesday.

“I hope justice is upheld & delivered for the people of J&K. The SC ruling on Article 370 main-tained that the provision can be abrogated only on the recommendation of the J&K constituent assembly,” former PDP President Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.

National Conference vice-president Omar Ab-dullah said he is looking forward to the Supreme Court hearings on Article 370. “Finally the bench is constituted. I look forward to the hearings beginning in right earnest now,” Omar tweeted.

Echoing similar views, senior leader of CPI-M and spokesperson for Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami said that August 5 decisions were taken without consent of the Kashmiri people. “The move [abrogation of Article 370] was an assault on the constitutional order & was taken without the consent of the people,” he added.

Meanwhile, Satish Mahaldar, chairman of a prominent Pandit rights organization ‘Reconciliation, Relief and Rehabilitation’ in a media interview while calling for the restoration of Articles 370 and 35 A expressed hope that the Supreme Court of India will restore the Articles that provided special status to Jammu Kashmir. “Sampat Prakash Ji has made our stand clear about the Articles. There is no second thought about it. It is unfortunate that the people of Jammu Kashmir were made to suffer immensely,” Satish Mahaldar added.—KMS
