ISLAMABAD – Islamabad High Court’s fresh ruling ended all barrier to the execution of convicted Navy Officers in the famous 2014 dockyard attack case.
The apex court of capital city revoked the stay on death sentences of five former Pakistan Navy officers. Those who were convicted include Arslan Nazir Satti, Mohammad Hamad, Mohammad Tahir Rashid, Hamad Ahmed, and Irfanullah.
All these personnel were found guilty of facilitating attack on naval dockyard. The attack involved terrorists boarding a Pakistan Navy frigate in September 2014, triggering six-hour gun battle with Special Services Group (SSG) commandos, resulting in deaths of two terrorists.
In its ruling, Islamabad court allowed officers access to certain records relevant to case but did not release full inquiry report. Pakistan Navy warned that such a release could dent national security.
Irfanullah and other four officers were convicted on charges of espionage, helping enemy, and conspiring against naval assets. The court reaffirmed that the death sentences could proceed unless there were further legal developments.
The dockyard case sparked ongoing controversy, with some calling for the death sentence to be upheld due to the severity of the crime, while others question the fairness of the trial.
