Many people from the Opposition parties in India have praised Israeli filmmaker and International Film Festival of India (IFFI) jury head Nadav Lapid’s remark against the controversial Bollywood film “The Kashmir Files” for daring to speak the truth.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 53rd IFFI, in Goa, on Monday Nadav Lapid called the film ‘Propaganda’ and ‘Vulgar’. He expressed displeasure with the inclusion of the film in the competitive section and said all the jurors were disturbed and shocked by the incorporation of “The Kashmir Files” in the list.
The Congress, key Opposition party, termed Lapid’s remarks as an “embarrassment” for the Modi government, saying that hate eventually gets called out.
Supriya Shrinate, Chairperson of Social Media and Digital Platforms of Congress, in a tweet said, “PM Modi, his govt, BJP, the RW (right wing) ecosystem feverishly promoted ‘The Kashmir Files’ – A movie rejected by International Film Festival Of India. Jury Head Nadav Lapid called it ‘propaganda, vulgar movie – inappropriate for the film festival’.”
“Hate gets called out, eventually,” she said. Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed in a tweet said, “International Film Festival Of India Jury President Nadav Lapid calls ‘The Kashmir Files’ vulgar propaganda. In a bid to polarise the people of India, the BJP govt went all out in promoting the movie, resulting in a huge embarrassment for India on the international scale!—KMS
